After that experience, I realized that life was short and that life had to be enjoyed; there is more to life than making money, getting ahead and accumulating more stuff. Visiting my land helps me keep my priorities straight and I'd like to share that with others. This land serves as my charging station. Like a battery, my energy gets used up and I go to my land to recharge.....to clear my thoughts, connect with nature and find a better balance in it all. Being at my land gives a person the opportunity to be more than a spectator of nature, it gives you the opportunity to become a part of it. If bird watching is your thing, we have plenty of those. If reading a book gives you your high, then you might enjoy the calm sway of the porch swing that hangs from the branches of the 150 year old maple tree. If you want to see deer and turkeys up close, sneak away into the ground blind just before dusk that overlooks the pond. There is much joy to be had in the simplicity of it all while reconnecting with nature. As of late, I have found as much enjoyment from sharing my land with others the same as visiting the land myself. From close friends to friends of friends and complete strangers, many have enjoyed this little slice of heaven and made their own memories. Sadly, with increasing land prices, landownership is not a possibility for everyone, but it is my belief that everyone should have the ability and opportunity to reconnect with nature. There are public lands and publics parks and those are great but having the opportunity to have "your own space" without the crowds and chaos really allows for that closer connection to nature. Some of the biggest smiles that now come to my face are the photos of the disabled hunters fortunate enough to get out into the woods to put meat in their freezers. Seeing a father and son hunting from cabin, hearing the stories of a father and daughter enjoying nights in the cabin under the star lit skies while sharing stories by the campfire.
